A Clinical Study of Fractures of the Calcaneus

Abstract
A clinical analysis and the results of treatment were made on 52 patients of the calcaneal fractures by the Rowe¢¥s classification, treated at the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Capital Armed Forces General Hospital from Jan. 1970 to DEC. 1976. The summary of the results were as follows.
1. Among 66 feet of 52 patients, male and female ratio was 12:1.
2. Male patients aged from 20 to 29 were predominant (40 cases).
3. Main causes of the injury were falling down (40 cases),and explosive accident (6 cases).
4. Compression fracture of the spine was the most associated injury, next noticed were pelvic and Colle¢¥s fracture.
5. According to Rowe¢¥s classification, 22 feet belonged to Type 1, 15 feet to Type 4,9 feet to Type 5, 8 feet to Type 3, and 6 feet to Type 2.
6. Weight bearing was started 5 weeks after injury, and the results of treatment were studied by the Unit System of Cartner and Harilaes, By it, 3 31 feet were excellent, 16 feet breught in good.
7. Bohler angle was below 28 degrees in 30 cases.
